Artist’s Statement
Perky Cohen sculpts mostly in wood. The grain
provides a natural warmth to her sensual figures. she likes to portray
human emotions but also enjoys creating abstract forms. Recently, she
started experimenting with reliefs made from the natural wood shavings
accumulated over a period of more than forty years. She began by doing
human forms and then added abstract designs. Using Clay or Hydrocal
allows her to explore the effects of negative spaces and gives her the
opportunity to manipulate forms and make major changes that are not usually
possible in wood.
