Artist Statement
I work because I have to.  I am inexorably drawn to the creative process, to that torturous path of self examination and the visual, physical exploration and experimentation that manifests itself as the production of art.  Each piece foreshadows the next piece, each mark the next mark, in an endless series of challenges, of "What if...?" questions: "What if I used different shapes?" "What if I didn't use shapes at all?"  "What if it was that color instead?", "What if...?"  And the solution is nearly always, "OK, now: What if...?"  As each piece reaches its moment of resolution, some questions are answered, many more asked, and a new piece is spawned.  Whether I am drawing, sketching, painting or just observing, I am always collecting creative material as I build my own personal visual vocabulary and I grow and exercise my individual voice.
